No food service at all on any NZ domestic flights (other than the biscuit with your tea/coffee that is) unless you happen to be on one of the 'international' flights from CHC-AKL. So, you're out of luck on that score, however you should be able to do a quick dash to the (excellent) lounge in WLG, since it's a very compact airport. There's usually a great range of food in that particular lounge, assuming it has recovered from its recent upset (the roof was torn off by 180 km/h winds...). I'll be passing through WLG a few times later this month too, so this is an issue of some concern to me!

Back to your situation, however - it's not such a bad thing to be on the one-stopper - WLG is quite a spectacular place to fly into.
