Check again. As a previous poster stated, UA recently decided to return F service to mid-90's standards. This included the return of ice cream, real linens, hot towels, food serivce on all flights over 2.5 hours, and a new attention to detail. Since this decision, UA's domestic F product has become superior to all other US carriers, hands down. AA and CO follow closely behind, followed by AS and NW.
About the carving of the meat, etc . . . I just don't see why UA is improving the F service so much. Only a small number of people are paying the outrageous $2000+ fares for F class, and the rest of the seats are going to upgraders. This service enhancement will only be successful if it lures more top dollar pax into paying for F service, but I really don't see that happening.
