I took the offer in 2017. But I'm unlikely to do so again, even with the stars aligning again.
How it worked for me in 2017:
- I had already booked flights into/out of LAS for my trip(ended up being a road trip Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and Death Valley in California), and was on the call to reserve a night in Arizona using a weekend night certificate. This was key. The trip was already set/decided and I was considering a couple nights in Las Vegas anyways.
- Offer was $199 reservation fee for 3 nights, refunded in cash in Vegas after the presentation, plus a $200 certificate advertised as good at any Hilton, Doubltree, HGI, or Hampton properties.
- I only would only bite if they would make the dates/location and the reservation before I committed.
- For $50/night extra ($150+tax), I reserved a two-bedroom (~1400sq foot) corner suite. Ended up on a decently high floor.
Differences from promises/advertisements in the end:
- I should have left quicker, I was too nice when the allotted time was up. Ended up costing me an extra 45 minutes. Which was significant because I was driving to Death Valley (In hindsight, I could have stayed in Death Valley, but it would have cost $$$$ or been at a Motel 6 type place. But the trips back and forth there twice were a little long)
- Refund was NOT cash like in the terms over the phone, and clearly written in the email confirmation terms ($200 cash to spend in Vegas!). It was a refund to credit card only. Cost me about $10 in lost CC rewards, but I sort of expected the terms weren't going to be followed here anyways and wasn't counting on it.
- $200 rebate was not good at any of the listed chains as the agreed terms indicated. The way it worked is I had to pick one of the chains immediately (Hilton / Garden Inn / Doubletree / OR Hampton Inn), it was NOT good at *any* of the list but only at the single name I had to specify. The $200 rebate was also limited to one night's stay's room rate and not including taxes or fees, additional stipulations that were nowhere in the earlier agreed contract terms. Good thing I didn't pick Hampton Inn which I would have if I didn't get HGI.
I used the $200 rebate shortly later for a stay at an HGI. With the double points rate it came out to $190 something. I then received the prepaid rebate visa card a couple months after the form was submitted.
Overall a decent deal for the pretty nice room at a net cost of ~$0 but the not-insignificant additional cost of > half a day of my time in one of the favorite vacations I have had. The cash rates to book the room I had on those dates was listed at $1000+ a night -- of course I don't know if anyone actually was paying that.
I would recommend only considering this deal if you already have the dates lined up and get them to set the specific location/dates that are acceptable. There are a range of properties in most of their destinations, with some much less valuable. Plus there are limited dates they let you do the presentations and limited rooms that are allocated for them at each location. It is a terrible value idea to just pay for the "package" and then later try to hope you can find an available date/location that can work out.
