The EDITION looks so nice though...
I've been meaning to check out Edition, but haven't gotten around to doing so. While I'm not a fan of Nanjing East Road in general (too touristy, and few retail establishments that are a draw for me), I want to point out Edition's subway access is quite good. Like the Westin, Nanjing East Road is the closest metro station, but unlike the Westin (~500 meter walk), Edition is basically on top of the station. Line 2 is extremely crowded because it is so useful -- it basically cuts across downtown underneath Nanjing Road, and also serves both airports as well as Hongqiao Railway Station (same building as Hongqiao Airport T2). And, if you want to pop over to Lujiazui to check out the aquarium or the view from over there, it's only one stop away. Meanwhile, Line 10 is one of my favorite subway lines. Like Line 2, it cuts across town east-west, but mostly underneath Huaihai Road (Shanghai's second most famous street). It also serves Hongqiao Airport and Railway Station...maybe takes a little longer than Line 2, but your odds of getting a seat within a few stops are pretty high. Useful stops on Line 10 include Xintiandi, Sha'anxi Nan Lu, Shanghai Library, and maybe Shanghai Zoo (for those of you who like zoos). I would actually argue that Huaihai is classier than Nanjing Rd, but this is a judgement call, and first tier retail brands definitely disagree with me on this (i.e. work with many and NJ Rd (west, not east) is the cream of the crop, as far as they're concerned).
