It does seem that members that fly long haul will be adversely affected by the changes. I have already booked over 100,000 status miles for next year so Senator is locked in till 2023. However calculation at the new rate would only reach 430 status points of which 350 would be QPs. I have plenty of time in the next 3 years to consider if status is worth it when flying long haul in premium cabins. If not there are plenty of choices and in the case of LH business, several that I would consider to be superior and often cheaper.
I have had two to three flights to Australia every year, too, and I shared the fun between LH/LX for the first part and CX/QF for the second part of the journey or Emirates as QF codeshare all the way down. Normally travelling in First, this was always sufficient to reach Gold status in both, BA and LH. This will become is bit more complicated on the LH side. On the other end, my cheap P class segments in Europe add more the status than they did in the past, so it should still work and contribute to BA and LH lifetime.
