No luck on the refund. You won't earn MQM or SkyMiles on the second seat either.

I did want to mention that flying as a customer of size on southwest, if they're on your route, is advantageous. You preboard and get a reserved seat next to you for no extra cost.

And depending on your size don't forget to look into the cost of F fares.
