Review: Conrad Beijing
Introduction Conrad Beijing is situated on Dongsanhuan Beilu 东三环北路 (which the hotel has translated as North Dongsanhuan Road) along the 3rd Ring Road around Beijing.Hilton Honors Diamond members and Executive level guests can check-in at the Executive Lounge situated on the 29th floor. As key card access is required to use the lift, you will have to ask a member of staff in the lobby for assistance. The Executive Lounge associate who processed check-in was friendly and welcoming. I was informed that as a Hilton Honors Diamond member, I was upgraded from a standard Deluxe Room to an Executive Room. Executive King Room The room had a modern and roomy feel.On entering the room, there was a large walk-in closet to the left.A welcome fruit platter had been placed on the work desk. There was a spacious daybed beside the window. Sunset view from the window:As mentioned above, although the hotel is situated next to a busy main road (the 3rd Ring Road), the hotel was well soundproofed. I was able to sleep well undisturbed by traffic noise. The bathroom was bright and spacious. Executive Lounge The Executive Lounge is open from 6:30am to 11pm daily. The Lounge overlooks the 3rd Ring Road and Tuanjiehu Park:Breakfast is available between 6:30am and 11am (a more extensive breakfast buffet is available in the Chapter restaurant – see below). Eggs and soup noodles were available made to order. The breakfast buffet included cold cuts/smoked salmon, a few Chinese and Western hot dishes, cereal/granola/Bircher muesli, bread/pastries, fruit etc.Afternoon tea is available between 3pm and 5pm, while Happy Hour is from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.Happy Hour drinks included Red, white and sparkling wine, spirits, beer, soft drinks, coffee and tea. I found the food selection a bit disappointing. There were portions of salad, slices of cake, slices of fresh fruit and bread rolls. The hot food consisted of braised beef, mashed potato, fried rice and cream of mushroom soup.Executive Lounge guests can book the meeting room free of charge for 1 hour during their stay and can also request complimentary garment pressing for 2 pieces of clothing per stay. There was no computer in the Lounge. Breakfast in the Chapter restaurant The Chapter restaurant is situated next to the lobby on the ground floor (1st floor). The breakfast buffet is available from 6am to 10:30am on Monday to Saturday and from 6am to 11am on Sunday. The restaurant design is like a library. Most of the buffet food items were placed on the shelves on the left of this photo. There was an egg and noodle station in another corner where you could order eggs, soup noodles and dumplings. It was also possible to order pancakes/waffles. There was a range of food items, though the quality was average. Facilities The fitness centre and indoor swimming pool are situated on floor B2.The fitness centre is open 24 hours a day.The 25-metre indoor swimming pool (which, as you can see from the photos above, is situated behind the fitness centre) is open from 6am to 10pm. The jacuzzi is situated between the two lounging areas at the side of the pool. There is no sauna/steam room. Location The nearest metro station is Hujialou. After leaving the station from Exit E, turn right and walk all the way down Xiangjunbeili Sanxiang 向军北里三巷 (a road through a residential neighbourhood), turn right at the end of the road and you will see the hotel on your left. Alternatively, if you prefer walking down the busy main road, at Exit E turn 180 degrees and walk to the intersection of Chaoyang Beilu 朝阳北路 and Dongsanhuan Beilu 东三环北路, turn left at the intersection and you will see the hotel on your left (at 29 Dongsanhuan Beilu). Either route is a 5-10 minute walk.To get to Hujialou from Beijing Capital International Airport, take the Capital Airport Express train to Sanyuanqiao station and then take metro line 10 to Hujialou. Overall I enjoyed my stay at Conrad Beijing. I liked the hotel design and it was conveniently located within short walking distance of Hujialou metro station. The swimming pool and fitness facilities were good. If there was one area for improvement it would be the food (both in the Executive Lounge and in the restaurant). Nevertheless, I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel.
