So I now take all of these out and place them in the tray - bingo, no secondary searches.
I was somewhat bemused when I went through T3 security at MAN last month.

I was told to put my coat and bag onto the first tray and my one 10ml plastic bottle of eye drops in a clear plastic zip-loc pouch into a second tray all by itself.

My bag (which I had forgotten to take my iPad out of) sailed through. My second tray containing the 10ml of eye drops was sent to secondary!

The chap on secondary was very careful to remove my eye drops from the zip-loc, swab down the container and analyse it, then read through the entire label before eventually handing it over to me with a gruff 'Which airline are you flying with?' When I told him BA, he just grunted and started on the next tray in secondary.
