I was in a similar situation, building towards the necessary amount of points. In the meantime, my points advance booking for 6 nights in January went from 175k points to 300k points. Yesterday, after finally getting to 175k points, I DM'd the MBonvoyAssist account on Twitter and asked for assistance with my points advance booking made prior to the peak pricing implementation in September. After a couple security questions from them, they added 125k points to my account, deducted 300k points, and attached the e-certificate to my reservation. I recommend giving that route a try. Who knows how many minutes (hours?) on the phone that saved me.
Unfortunately, I already went back and cancelled and re-booked...can't believe I didn't think about doing this! UGH!
