Agreed, which is very useful if you're traveling to Tokyo. Perhaps OP is. :-) I've also gotten outsized redemption values during events. But, in general, I'd rather have MileagePlus points than Marriott points. If nothing else, it's cheaper to earn more Marriott points than it is to earn more MileagePlus points.
