Cape Town
Pants is not adventurous at the best of times and with the addition of man flu, the pace necessarily slowed at this point
We spent a couple of days exploring Cape Town- the cable car was not working and he is always worried about getting knifed (not sure why) so table mountain was out, as was my desire to go take a look at a township. Also time was required to do a bit more shopping to replace lost items
Thus we began with breakfast, at Hemelhuijs (hemelhuijs.co.za) which I can very highly recommend
I started with tea, pants a latte- it is a good job he doesn’t work in hospitality as his latte art is terrible!
can’t remember what the old boy ordered but I went for the yogurt pannacotta, which was really good
After this we went for a walk up to/around Bo Kaap
Followed by a walk through Cape Town to take in some street scenes on the way to the District 6 museum
We made our way to the V&A waterfront with an intention of taking a trip to
Robben Island. Turns out it’s booked out days-weeks in advance so we simply booked tickets for our return.
Book in advance if possible!!
on the way back I spotted Somerset Hospital which has a fair bit of history especially in the fight against HIV/AIDS
Cecil Rhodes statue, a reminder of one of my coworkers who was very into him!!
Nelson at City Hall
A spot of Australia-style statue modification
The next day on the way to breakfast we spotted what seemed to be a movie being filmed, with New York style props such as hot dog stand, taxi and USPS mailbox around
