For that sort of arrival, I now almost always book the prior evening. I place a note in the reservation (i.e., for a 9 Nov res) - "Arrive 10 Nov 0600h" It also allows you to have breakfast included for the morning of arrival if the rate includes it or you otherwise have breakfast benefits.
Proper credit is often screwed up and needs manual intervention after the fact.
If the hotel is informed prior to the stay of this late arrival, usually they will pre-book the room and do the check-in before night audit, so night credit gets posted. This is also the better option for the hotel. Easier than reinstating a no show reservation and also a higher occupation is always better for the hotels.
