Not close to the train, but withing walking distance of good food.
For me, the choice really depends on purpose of the trip. Last few have been all training at other airport hotels from early am to late pm. Haven't really left the airport area when I go out there for training. Choice within the Hilton brand usually ends up being the Hilton LAX since it's usually the least expensive option, has a decent (albeit not great) lounge, and is a short walk to both the airport (quicker than the shuttle usually) and the hotel where the training takes place.
Walking between T2 and Hilton? How? I didnt think there even was a path. Regardless it's quite a far walk.
Hilton LAX or Westin LAX are my normal gotos. I actually prefer the Embassy Suites North, but they're generally always either booked full or way overpriced.
While the Hilton was redone, the rooms to me still feel dated. It seems like they focused on the public areas more than rooms. The only thing I really dislike is the new elevator system. It requires you enter the floor number and get in on the elevator it tells you. It confuses everyone, they walkin an open elevator and are confused. You then have to tell them what to do and make sure they understand to get the correct elevator. Like the automated TSA bins, they work great and save time, but only if everyone knows what to do.
