Had this happen to me in Taipei less than a week ago. I called the Titanium line and was told while conferencing the hotel in on the call I would need to book 2 nights.
Granted, I could use the nights (not the spend) but it still didn’t sit well with me that some arrangement couldn’t be made.
This was at the Sheraton Grand mid week which could have been the reason why. The W was fully booked. I did not look at the Marriott.
If you go down this path (book extra night) make sure the additional night posted.
Sometimes there are issues arising from people who check in after night audit (around midnight) that their night credit is not posted properly.
