Um, no. It's bizarre only if one already knows that RFPs are done through the website. I didn't know that until just now, and have never issued one. So not so bizarre at all, actually.
And while the OP discusses issuing the RFP for three hotels, s/he didn't mention that it was done via the website.

So I stand by my previous suggestion of email, which has the added benefit of a written record of the cancellation, should there be any question or problem in the future. Of course, Marriott chooses not to share all of its email addresses publicly, but that's a separate issue.
