we spent two nights in a 16th century chateau (regrettably the owners stopped operating it as a B&B a year or so later) near the fascinating town of Bayeux after our visit to the Normandy beaches and the American cemetery in June 2004 (immediately after the 60th anniversary of D-Day) ... I can’t recommend that area enough, and even our then-13-year-old son was impressed

we had spent the previous night at Mont St Michel, which was equally fascinating
