You could try cancelling the existing ticket and then re-booking as two separate tickets, but you risk the possibility someone will buy the one remaining cheaper ticket in the mean time. You could also call Southwest and have them split the tickets, but again the cheap ticket may be gone before you can book the cheaper one.
Always book separate tickets, especially if you plan to re-fare..
I disagree with the always book separate tickets, especially if you are checking in at T-24. Checking in multiple reservations at the same time and getting different boarding numbers just isn't worth it to me.
