The rep told me in Chinese, and I'm pretty sure I heard her clearly that I can eat at the lounge or the restaurant on the 2nd floor.
I booked the cheapest room for the night. She said I'll get the next level up. I forgot the name of the room. It's on Marriott's website. No other rooms are available as they're all booked up.
I've stayed at 3 of the Renaissance hotels in Shanghai with in the last year some multiple times. For the most part they don't have a welcome gift other than points. If you wanted something else they would offer breakfast which usually is obvious you won't select, because you get Free lounge breakfast. You are being petty IMO. You would be getting 1000 points on check out. I assume you have no desire to stay at the same hotels again., playing your game will get you some miserable upgrades and more likely no upgrade. They also might update your internal Marriott information file with "troublemaker", who knows. I see you recently did a status challenge to get Platinum.. Good luck with your future Marriott stays.
Also. Some of the hotels in China now use a printed card for you to select your gift. The downside to the new system, probably stemming from your game, is that you will never get offered the option of breakfast in the restaurant in addition to the points. On occasion it's nice to have the option.
