They are basically downgrading the second service to a snack, adding a water bottle and going to offer disposable headsets in Y. I've not flown PE or Y longhaul for a while, but don't recall the second service to be anything spectacular in the first place?
If you look at the menu for LH400 (JFK):
https://lh-menu.de/en/download/2019--11-12/E/400P/1 its already something tiny. The second service to DEL LH760 reads to be more substantial:
https://lh-menu.de/en/download/2019--11-12/E/760P/1 similar to the second service to PVG LH726:

So I suppose all second service on all longhaul is going to be like LH400 going forward.
I was in PE last week from ICN to FRA and the second meal was hot and nice, but served in one of those metal foil things. There were two choices, and there was also a cold snack in between the two meal services. Other than that I found PE was just not worth the extra - better recline but hard seats, no perks on the ground and no differentiated service I could tell, aside from small amenity kit and a printed menu.
Honestly I think these changes, especially for PE, are just taking it down more to the Y level and, given this, the changes in mileage earning and generally shoddy ground service when connecting through FRA (luggage lost twice, and not even on the days when all luggage went haywire), I think I'll actively try to avoid LH now on long haul flights.
The only good thing I can find is when you buy Y or PE and bid to upgrade you get miles according to booking class rather than fare paid. Anticipating what will be announced next week regarding earning status, I think I'll try to look for another *A programme, and/or only credit non LH group flights to M&M. Finding it difficult to choose another *A programme though. My flights tend to be N or P class, and intra-Europe vary from K-M.
This year I'm hitting around 60k Status miles (would be more except out of my 6 LH J flights, 5 were with Oneworld, out of choice for better product - QR instead of LH). I'm basically losing any incentive to fly LH group on long haul flights now, especially on LH issued ticket.
