Luggage will be checked right through at London so i remain air side at Doha, but do I go through any customs check when doing the transit to the second leg of the journey?

I assume that if it's in the sealed Duty Free bags, you'll be ok. My problem was I had purchased the alcohol outside the airport on my trip... so I wouldn't have made it onto the plane if I had been traveling to the US as it was just a few loose bottles.
I distinctly remember a passenger in tears once at secondary screening because she had a bottle of some crazy expensive alcohol & they confiscated it from her. I think she said she'd bought it from Duty Free, but I guess it wasn't in the bag anymore.
But.... I'd also caution you not to take my assumption as fact.
