Though this makes me remember my most embarrassing travel moment. I try to be a very considerate flyer but was on a flight once, in my seat (or so I thought) when a guy approached and said something about his seat. I was so jet-lagged, literally my 4th flight to get to my destination. I just sat there, looking at something, he just stood there looking at me. Maybe 30 seconds go by and I realized what he said. I felt like such an ***. I had the right row, but mixed up the seat. I apologized and moved immediately but there was this 30 seconds of blank space there that I must have seemed like such an awful person. He wasn't giving up though and wasn't mean, I commend him for that.
This happened to me, too. Fortunately the person whose seat I had accidentally poached was more than happy to take mine since it was closer to her travelling companions. If she had wanted her original seat, though, I would have readily moved. Accidents happen, and sometimes we just need a little polite nudging.
