In my personal opinion, CW is simply not worth paying for seat selection. Just tolerate the 13 hours or so seated apart, a significant portion of the time you’d be asleep anyway. And use the money saved for a swanky meal in Tokyo!

Unless one of the passengers needs assistance from the other, if so a call to BA asking to be seated together would normally suffice - they would put a note into your reservations and usually accommodate.
