Just some my personal thoughts here may help you guys with hotel selection as I am a Chinese and living in Beijing since birth.
First of all, I believe everybody would realize after Beijing trip that Beijing's traffic is bad and the city is huge, therefore unless you are coming to Beijing for business trip, you can just book the nearest hotel, otherwise any hotel would be bit distanced in some ways, since Beijing's good food spots and sights are pretty spread out, if you want to deeply travel in Beijing, none of those hotels will be 100% ideal in terms of location.
However, I have tried many hotels in Beijing, for tourist, I will list some hotel recommendations and small reviews.
Park Hyatt Beijing:
Great option for Hyatt member, my favorite hotel but not the best hotel in Beijing objectively.
In terms of subway communication, it directly connects to many subway line and the station just under the hotel.
Just renovated. Fantastic View and breakfast.
Overall the service is good and professional, although not reaching Aman or MO level.
Horrible entrance management, traffic in front of the entrance is bad and the basement parking is not five star hotel standard.
Not much authentic Chinese food options after business hour. And terrible traffic in rush hour even for subway, the security lane is long.
MO Wangfujing Beijing:
Just opened, new and modern, great location, almost in the center of Beijing, I think is one of the best hotel for tourist.
Great room and service, but the service is not really MO standard yet, certainly not the standard in SEA, may need some times.
The lobby is too small, and even hotel is located in the heart of the city, you still need to walk for 10 mins or talking taxi or subway in most cases.
WA Jinyuhutong Beijing:
The most beautiful hotel in Beijing in my opinion, it perfectly blend the Beijing style into the modern design, and you will feel really homed once you walk into the entrance.
Same as MO Beijing, in the heart of Beijing, but less convenient than that.
The hotel itself is small relatively, this may not a bad thing if you don't mind.
Intercontinental Tongying Center Beijing:
One of the best Intercontinental hotel in Asia, flagship hotel, stylish and super lively.
Great location if you like hang out in Sanlitun(The Village), which is the most trendy center in Beijing, and many great Chinese restaurants near by.
Location is great, and close to the PEK airport, but far to PKX airport.
Even the hardware is new and modern, but the maintenance is not great, and HSKP is not very good too. The hotel still doesn't feels like a luxury hotel.
Rosewood Beijing:
Business-friendly location, I personally think this hotel is not ideal for tourist.
Great design, but the room maintenance is not good, my room's celling light was flashing and I changed the room, still, but not really bothering if you don't pay attention.
The restaurants of the hotel are all great, very authentic and flavorful, and the price is not that expensive.
Others:
St.Regis is old, but in Chinese FFP forum the review for this hotel is not that bad.
PuXuan I haven't stay there yet, but when I consider the price and the location between this and MO, I will certainly pick MO since the price is similar but the location MO is better, unless you like the design of PuXuan.
Conard Beijing is bit old, not luxury, and the location is bit awkward.
Bvlgari Beijing is not that good, this is totally my personally opinion, I just don't like it, all Bvlgari are same, and this hotel has no Chinese restaurant which is bit lack of option as a luxury hotel in Beijing.
Both RC is old but the service is really good, however I won't stay there if I must, and the locations are great for both hotel, especially for Financial Street RC, that is probably the only luxury hotel in West Beijing.
Four Seasons Beijing, room is dated, and not great for tourist. For business this hotel is good and the review for this hotel is good in our forum, the food is great in the hotel.
Overall, if you ask me just pick one for my foreign friend who come to Beijing for a leisure trip, I will book MO or WA depends their preference for the hotel design. But if you do have a friend in Beijing who can take you play around, trust me, stay as close as you can, you will have good time and never get boring.
At the end, I just would like to point out that Beijing is huge, you won't get 100% right and 100% wrong in terms of hotel, and Beijing's transportation although is having bad traffic, but it is clean, modern and efficient at least in public transportation, with AC!! You don't have to worry about it. I go back to Beijing every summer break, I love this city, this city is truly unique, it's totally different than Shanghai, you won't find the huge difference between Shanghai and Hong Kong or other major world city no matter in Western country or Asia, but Beijing is Beijing, that's classic beef between Beijing Ren and Shanghai Ren lol.
Feel free to ask me any question relating to traveling in Beijing and China.
