FWIW - it really depend on the angle of how you place your laptop.
All laptops will suffer from the issue. If the latch catches the lid, it'll crush something that isn't meant to flex more than a few millimetres. You need to either place the lid in an unusable position or pray that the person in front will either give you a heads up or recline slowly enough for you to get clear in time... I've seen this on laptops from 12" to 15"... I suppose you could try a 17" as that may put it above the latch, but can't confirm that at the moment.
