Is there any way to change a return date on an international ticket (Canada to Europe) for ONLY the change fee with Delta? I've travelled with many airlines but very little with Delta but I have never seen something so incredibly skewed. We bought round-trip tickets (Germany to Canada) for $840 USD. We flew to Canada but now need to change our return date. We thought we could pay the change fee ($150 each ticket) plus any fare difference (if applicable) BUT out of our $840 original purchase they claim only $89 USD remain available and the return 1-way would be $1075 USD (the exact same amount of a new round-trip ticket for the same date right now). With other airlines when we have needed to make a change we can usually play around with travel dates to avoid or minimize fare difference charges. In this scenario how could we ever find a flight from NA to Europe for $89? Is this legitimate? We told them we expected to pay the change fee and willing to pay a fare difference while also being flexible on the new travel date but $1000+ for each ticket on top of what we already paid seems like extortion. Any feedback or more economical suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
