The point is just don't argue. It would take little to no effort to comply with what the GA asked. As someone mentioned earlier, if it's out of the suitcase, it's easier to handle if it catches on fire.
Maybe calling security at the drop of the hat isn't the best option, but as a GA I can imagine it would be incredibly frustrating to be argued with by some passenger who thinks he knows more than you.
