I've heard from several FAs and GAs that they want it removed because it's much easier to handle with the fire gloves and get the burning battery into the fire containment bags they have onboard. Probably much easier to pull out of a seat-back pocket or backpack than try and work the mechanism on the bag itself in the event of a fire.
Also, failing LiIon batteries often swell; this may make it impossible to remove from the custom-sized enclosure while not being a problem for the same battery in the bag's main compartment. That would be a problem if it needs to be put in the fire containment bag.
