Upon cessation of this route, the oil companies used charter aircraft to bring their workers in from Gatwick and then Stansted Airport, using Monarch and then Titan Airways aircraft.
This continued until 2016 when this was no longer viable in the current oil & gas market, numbers of expat workers had diminished in Algeria, so many companies (mine included) went to using commercial routes into ALG then smaller feeder charter flights to the remote site locations. They are still doing this now.
There are still weekly charter flights via Air Nostrum / Iberia from Madrid into both Hassi Messaoud and Adrar, which I occasionally use. These flights use Bombardier CRJs.
