AA doesn't have anything like the customer base at SFO that UA has. AA also doesn't have the same revenue management software UA is using, which tells it to jack fares way up.
I agree the fare is ridiculous. I see similar on many routes ex-SFO these days.

Yeah the AA seat feels fine to me, though I haven't sat in it more than two hours.
