Having passed through PVG I can now give specifics to some of the restaurants in the new terminal:
- Most of the restaurants are Chinese, with different cuisines represented. One is Shanghainese, one is Cantonese, one is Xinjiang, one serves roast duck and goose, and I believe one does noodles. They didn't seem like chain restaurants by any stretch of the imagination, as far as I know.
- There are two Japanese restaurants. One serves ramen (Menya Musashi), while the other heavily promotes its unagi bowls
- There is one Korean restaurant, specializing in bibimbap and bonjuk (Korean porridge)
- Western options I've seen are Papa John's, Starbucks and Mövenpick ice cream. If BK and DQ exist, they're in one of the extensions, as I only perused the restaurants in the central terminal area
Given how new it is, a lot of the restaurants are offering promotions and discounts, and there's a lot of empty space where restaurants can open up later on as more flights move to the new terminal. I'm very inclined to try the unagi bowl restaurant when I pass by through PVG again.
(I also have pictures of the terminal, which I'll upload later. I'm more impressed by the MU lounge, where there are washlets and a very strong shower!)
