Anything works. It is not worth to buy something expensive just for size.

In the reality, many do not use their laptops onboard. For instance, I am not sure you like to share your screen with others. Also, with a full row, you may have difficulty using your laptop, such as space, no charger, etc.

I believe the only rugged laptops, such as Panasonic TOUGHBOOK, are the only laptops that won't be crushed by a reclining seat. But they are simply too heacy.

FWIW - it really depend on the angle of how you place your laptop.
