I fly regularly between DUS and Japan on EK.
And I prefer to eat vegetarian food, so what I do is I'm first in line for check-in, first in the EK DUS lounge(where the selection of food is great, IMO the best of the EK dedicated lounges in Europe, I've been in most), I stopover in DXB so again I'm in there...
And in Japan lounges used by EK, there's also veggie food,again I'm first in line at check in in KIX/HND/NRT
Usually by the time I board, I'm more than full.
I've never been hungry thanks to EK.
I actually do the same, but another problem is the pretty terrible quality of the Sakura Lounge (Japanese Airlines) in KIX, which Emirates uses. I neither like the ambience nor the food there. They basically just offer a curry and a few other pretty poor dishes. I wish Emirates had its own lounge in KIX.
