Both before and after API was introduced, I've been putting variants of this down in different places. That includes I-94Ws, including when in transit between a ship that's just arrived inn the US and a flight out of the US.
Indeed, it would have been on the old US immigration and customs form.

BA.com, however, demands a full address or it refuses to save anything. I've entered "Transit" in lieu of hotel name and entered the ZIP code that I lived in as a student at UCLA in the early 90s.
