If a flight is delayed, the boarding gates don't open until 45-50 minutes before the new departure time.
However, as has been said, you need to keep an eye out on the EasyJet App or the departure boards. I've had EasyJet flights where delays have disappeared as they moved aircraft around.
It looks like the chap who missed his flight WAS watching the app. I'd get onto the social media team on Twitter to see if there's anything they can do.
