OP is flying the reverse so no stop in SNN and no SSSS on ex US flights.
BA2 is often a lot busier than the 1 so less chance of a free seat next to you.
CC tell me that the passenger mix on the 1 is totally different from the 2.
as to journey times yes it’s blocked as longer but if your destination is the city itself or central / east London then the trip in toto is much shorter than flying into LHR or LGW.
