BA.com requiring Advance Passenger Information (API) not needed due to onward flight

I'm flying LHR-LAX-SYD next week on an AA issued ticket, with the first leg operated by BA.

Bizarrely, ba.com is not allowing me to save my passport information unless I also make up a fictitious accommodation address. BA's IT being rubbish is nothing new obviously, but this really ought to be elementary.
