World MasterCard rental car insurance: need to pay for damage with MasterCard?
Recently, I was driving a rental car and another car crashed into mine. I paid the rental car company (National) $1k for the damage and have submitted documentation to MasterCard to get reimbursed. Since the National website wasn't working, I paid National by mailing a check to it, instead of paying for the damage by credit card.
Need to pay for damage with MasterCard to get MasterCard damage coverage?
However, MasterCard now asked for a copy of my credit card statement, showing that I used my MasterCard to pay National for the damage.
Nothing in the World MasterCard terms and conditions indicates that you have to pay for the damage with your MasterCard, particularly as one option for coverage is for World MasterCard to pay the rental car company directly. But is this actually a requirement? I paid for the rental with my World MasterCard.
If this is a requirement, would the rental car company maybe refund the amount paid by check and let me pay for everything with my World MasterCard?
MasterCard won't pay for rental car company charges for loss of use and reduction in value?
In addition, I see that World MasterCard won't pay for rental car company administrative fees and the like in connection with damage. I paid National for loss of use of the car and reduction in value (which is fair to have to pay). But if World MasterCard won't pay that, as I don't have car insurance (I don't own a car), I guess my sole recourse for that is to go after the other driver directly, in small claims court or the like?
Thanks.
