[Removed by moderator]. But certainly glad to see there are plenty of people out there who agree that a vegetarian standard option would make sense.
A few additional thoughts on points that have been mentioned in the thread:
- While I get the logic, I do not agree that Emirates would be able to even remotely accurately gauge interest in a standard non-meat/fish meal option in business class via tracking of 'special meal' orders alone; This tracking would omit the significant number of non-vegetarian passengers who may simply choose such an option as just another possibly superior alternative. A reasonably well-prepared Italian pasta or Indian curry can easily be more appealing than the frequently poor quality meat offerings usually served on business class.
- I see several people mentioning that the 'special meal' is enough for vegetarians; please read my original post, I specifically mentioned why this is NOT enough in my opinion as class specific 'special meals' are not available out of all airports, such as mine here in Japan. It is ridiculous to be served a poorly made Economy Class-level Indian curry or Western Vegetarian dish while paying C-class fares. If this is the solution, Emirates would have to ensure that the meals are AT ALL TIMES class specific, and not just out of Dubai or international airports which happen to have good vegetarian catering
- There are practically no meat or fish eaters who would be unable to eat a vegetarian dish, whereas this is not the case vice versa; as a consequence, the vegetarian option would be a very flexible menu item if either meat or fish dishes run out
- As some here have mentioned, vegetarian options are significantly cheaper to make so would lead to reduced flights costs, and not increased as someone stated
- Adding a vegetarian meal option would ultimately extend choice on the menu
