I'm thinking that Hilton is not thinking "outside the box" enough on this one. Why should you have to stop at the desk at all to pick up your key? Why couldn't you be allowed to use your credit card (the one already in the profile) as the door key? That way, after checking in ahead of time and being told what room you are in, you could simply go to the room when you get there and swipe the credit card in the door lock to prove that you are the one authorized to get inside. No need to ever wait for anything.
