If you decide to go through Gander, it's worth stopping by the airport too. Ask someone if Jerry is around - he's the head of security (and the guy who was working for 72 hours straight with diverted planes on 9/11). He'll give you a private tour of the international lounge, which is straight out of the 1950s and was one of my favorite parts of visiting Newfoundland last year.
