Stay Report - 10/17 - 10/20

Location: I was very happy with the location for my three days of touring the city. You're two blocks from The Bund so you can enjoy both a night and daytime stroll there. Within a kM are two Metro Stations (Yuyuan Garden and Nanjing Road East), the latter of which is on the 2 Line which runs to both SHA and PVG and the main train station. You can also walk to a number of restaurants both touristy and local within a kM of the hotel. The location itself is a huge selling point.

Hotel: The building is a 24 story high rise that isn't much to look at from the outside but is very nice inside. The design itself is quite modern though but with a classical element. The lower floor has The Brasserie which is where breakfast is and the lobby has The Long Bar. On the 5th floor is an indoor pool and fitness center. The floors don't have that many rooms and I never had to wait a long time for an elevator. There's also an onsite underground parking garage.

Check In: The check in agent was like every agent I encountered here: extremely friendly and helpful. I suggest you never walk through the lobby hungover or in a bad mood because to a man each person will great you with a cheerful "good morning!" But anyway, the agent thanked me for my status, told me I'd been upgraded to a Junior Suite, gave me a list of the Diamond benefits and proactively offered a late checkout which I don't think has ever happened to me at a Hilton property.

Room: I'm used to junior suite being French for "longer room" but here it meant that I had a small office off the main room. It was a really weird setup and it meant the living room area wasn't very useful. However, the bathroom was lovely, I had a full walk in closet by the door, outlets near the bed (and in the office area western style outlets), a really comfortable bed, Nespresso machine and two TVs (one in the office and a larger one by the bed). Wifi also worked well.

Dining: Breakfast has to be seen to be believed. There's both a menu with some western and eastern dishes (omelet, steak and eggs, eggs benedict) and a huge buffet the length of the massive room with cereal, fruit, yogurt, cold cuts, smoked fish, a noodle bar, breads, hot western and eastern dishes and a lot more. Service was also incredible.

I loved this hotel, I'd gladly be back if I came back to Shanghai it was easily worth the $300 or so a night.
