I have relatives that are in Hotel Management, he laughs at the idea of limiting toiletry is saving mother earth. There are things hotels does in one day that is harmful to the planet than a year's worth of plastic bottled toiletry. He said it's purely a gimmick to cut expenses and increase revenue and the best way to masquerade it (and actually get gullible guests to applaud the action) is label it "it's for the environment people!"
I think this may be a manifestation of the "Educated Idiot" syndrome, where very bright people can be extremely gullible. I forget who it was, some magician, but not P&T, said their ideal audience would be a room of Nobel winners because smart people are so easy to fool. The hotel industry does a pretty good job of it with their save the world virtue signaling, but companies like Whole Foods Market really have it down when they add organic and GMO hysteria to the mix.
