Sure, but if you do more of an apples to apples comparison, I would agree with the OP that BCN is one of the worst-run of the European airports in terms of the customs and security for outgoing flights. In September, we got to the airport for a BCN-IAD flight over 2 hours before and nearly missed our flight. Not only did we have the first two lines mentioned, but a third line prior to entering the wing of the airport where our gate was.

One of the more enjoyable aspects of European airports since 2001 (when the US cracked down), is the relative ease of getting to the plane. BCN was at least as bad as any US aiport.
