Reading some of the earlier posts are funny. The "porn shop" across the street I think was referring to the Pink Pony which was a strip bar that closed 10 (?) years ago. To directly answer the earlier question, it is certainly walkable to the Sheraton, though as pointed out about half the route will not have sidewalks and I sure wouldn't do it in August! While the area isn't the best in the city, I would have no problem walking during the daytime (I'm a single male if that matters). While this isn't what you asked, there is a Hilton and Homewood in the "Blue Lagoon" area which would be a very short ride to the Sheraton, both have shuttle service that will drop you there (tell them you're going to the rental car facility). They are on a little peninsula with much nicer surroundings, if that matters to you. But I understand the allure of the Embassy breakfast and drinks!
