Worth it to transfer CC points to an Alliance to book a DIFFERENT airline?
I use the award hacker site and I see all the DIRECT transfer flights available (I use AA, TYP, and UR), which is great, but what about transferring from my CC points programs to anyone within an alliance simply to gain access to that alliance and book an award flight on a different airline?
In general, is this worth considering? Or, should I stick to direct transfers?
I'm looking at flights to Europe, from Asia, and per award hacker the points costs are a bit high (averaging 2-3 cents per mile when I've been able to redeem in the past for 4-6 cents). So, I'm thinking what is stopping me from transferring TYP or UR to a Star Alliance partner and using them to book the award with another carrier who was not previously available for a direct transfer?
Does this make sense?
