Portland, OR -- Ease of public transport?

Hi there --

I am doing a MR that will have me overnight in PDX. I will likely use points or PL the hotel near the airport. I do not want to rent a car, and would like to get out and see some of Portland, if at all possible. Is there a link from the airport to the light rail system? I understand that I could take that into downtown and then navigate from there. I also understand that there is free light rail in downtown. Can anyone confirm the ease of getting from the hotel TO downtown?
