When I travel on flights where upgrades aren't released at normal time windows I can't check in online until I'm upgraded which happens ever so often between 24 to 6 hrs before the flight. It happened to me last weekend going to and from Atlanta. My upgrade cleared 12 to 6 hrs prior which coincided with the ability to check in online.
