I wouldn’t be so quick to make that assumption. It’s entirely plausible for BA to have things set up differently than LH.

In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the behavior differed even between *A airlines: for example, LH upgrades could count while AC upgrades don’t. Or, it could be like the PQM bonus on UA today, which sometimes kicks in and sometimes doesn’t.
