BCN is a bad airport for non-EU citizens

So I've flown out of BCN Terminal 1 twice in the past month to non Schengen destinations. Both times around midday. Both times I've been annoyed by the lengthy security/customs delays for non-EU citizens. The first line is security, which takes about 25 minutes. This is then followed by an even longer customs line to be "stamped out" of the Schengen. EU citizens don't have to wait on that second line as there are automated gates for them. What's maddening is that there are plenty of booths for more customs agents, but the powers-that-be decide to under-staff these booths with just a handful of agents.

Being a learning organism, I discovered that there's a "fast lane" to the far left of the regular security line. I'm not sure of the exact qualifications for this line, but as a Star Gold I was good to go. This line was great as it's both hidden and "exclusive." Unlike the regular security line, there was no wait whatsoever at the fast lane. However, that security checkpoint just dumps into the regular customs line, which then took about a half hour.

EU residents who have access to the Fast Lane and can use the automated gates can get through the entire process in less than 5 minutes. Everyone else will be greatly inconvenienced. If you fall into this latter camp, leave plenty of time for your T1 non-Schengen departure.
