Hampton by Hilton Swinoujscie, Poland

No thread for this property, so I'll report here.

Stayed for four nights last week, all in all this was my 3rd stay at this property. I contacted the GM ahead of time asking which category I should book to have a room on 4th (top) floor guaranteed with balcony showing towards the street. She replied that I should book a standard queen room and she will assign me to a top floor room with balcony.

We came in by train, i.e. Swinoujscie Centrum, served by the UBB (Usedomer Bäder Bahn) coming in from neighboring Germany. We started at Stralsund, where a direct service starts every two hours. The few meters to the hotel with luggage were rather easy to walk. Arriving by 13:30 hrs. meant being early. The front desk agent didn't say much but quickly checked us in and up we went to our room.

I have been pre-assigned to room 403. It is listed as a standard room, however it has a larger outline hence offering more space. The balcony is small and has no furniture to sit at. The street was rather quiet during the night. Only once I overheard voices. During the day there is a constant flow of cars from and into Germany. But that stopped during night time. Insulation was good but since we sleep preferably with windows open there was no issue.

Furniture are Hampton in Europe like, small tv set included. Only two commercial tv channels in German language, maybe one in English but many more in Polish. This was astonishing because there is a large number of German speaking guests staying at this hotel in in Swinoujscie in general. We received two 500ml bottles of sparkling water each day. Housekeeping was good.

The hotel must have been at full capacity. The breakfast room was crowded by guests seemingly from (German) bus tours. The thing was that they liked to sit for a long time over breakfast as much as we do. The offerings were substantial as we experienced in other hotels when having toured Poland two years ago. And staff was very attentive and quick clearing tables. They did an excellent job.

In the evening we always saw guests sitting near the bar area in the restaurant. We once wanted a digestif and the bar man appeared rather stressed. This turned us away. Next night other bar man, less stressed albeit a bit snooty. This was in sharp contrast to other employees we encountered.

One day we rented bicycles for the day. It costs 29 Zloty / person. It was very convenient to explore the surroundings. The first day we walked across the boarder to Heringsdorf, taking the hourly train back to Swinoujscie. That day we cycled both ways but also explored the Swinoujscie coast line. We especially wanted to see the sea mark that was constructed as a (fake) mill. This is a landmark of Swinoujscie and that is why it was a great disappointment to see that the mill's wings were deconstructed. The building looked rather neglected.

Another day we took the free ferry to Wolin where the train station of the Polish railway is. We first intended to visit Misdroy which must have been as mundane as Swinoujscie has been before 1939 but eventually we did not go. The railway station is close to the ferry and the ferry goes every 20minutes. So no risk checking it out.

In terms of restaurants we tried Miedzy Ustami. Good food, good service, good atmosphere.

The future Hilton Swinoujscie is scheduled to open in February 2020. It is located between the promenade and the sea. The Hampton is further away from the beach but within walkable distance to both, beach (i.e., promenade) and city centre. So the choice will depend on personal preferences. I find the Hampton a good choice and if you can find a good price it is well worth the money while likewise delivering a good stay.
